GIANT Food Stores Donates 450 Hams to Central Pennsylvania Food Bank

HARRISBURG, PA – On Tuesday morning, associates from the GIANT Food Store Linglestown Road location packed up 450 hams for the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank as part of GIANT’s Hams for Hunger campaign. The hams, which will provide approximately 2,000 servings of protein for families facing hunger in central PA, are just in time for Easter dinner.

“As part of GIANT’s ongoing commitment to the fight against hunger, this donation will help to ensure a warm holiday meal for many Central Pennsylvanian families in need,” said John MacDonald, director of marketing and external communications, GIANT. “Hunger relief organizations like the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank are in need of food donations year around and we encourage our customers and neighbors to help do their part throughout the year.”

MacDonald added that the donation of hams has two purposes. First, is to assist those needing food assistance. But a second purpose of the gift is to help bring attention to the ever-growing number of people who go hungry every day.

“This donation is such a blessing,” said Joe Arthur, executive director, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. “The Food Bank is helping record numbers of people, and this wonderful donation of center-of-the-plate protein will be the centerpiece of a healthy meal for hundreds of families. Thank you to GIANT for their continued support in the fight against hunger.”

Since 2010, GIANT Food Stores has donated more than 1.5 million pounds of food to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank’s efforts to eradicate hunger.
