GIANT FOOD STORES OPENS NEW LEWISBURG STORE First in Union County, features amenities to enhance overall shopping experience

Lewisburg, PA – GIANT Food Stores opens the doors of its brand new Lewisburg location tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 7 at 8 a.m. Open 24 hours daily, the new 66,000 square foot store at 224 Hardwood Dr., marks the grocer’s first store in Union County, creating approximately 210 full and part time jobs.

“GIANT is proud to become a staple in the local Lewisburg community,” said Marvin Mann, Lewisburg store manager. “We will provide customers with superior service, value, healthy choices, and state of the art amenities for quick and easy shopping to enhance our customers’ overall shopping experience.”

Beer Garden & Eatery
The new Lewisburg store includes a Beer Garden & Eatery featuring a vast selection of domestic and imported beers with an emphasis on craft and specialty beers. Customers can create their own six packs from a variety of craft beers with the “mix-a-six” option. Eat-in and take-out food are available, including hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, subs and Panini’s; piping hot, savory soups; an array of baked foods and desserts; and a wide selection of other beverages.

The Beer Garden & Eatery is open Monday – Saturday 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

GIANT enforces a 100% proof-of-age policy at the Beer Garden & Eatery. Cashiers will ask for proper identification – a valid driver’s license, passport or military identification card – from all customers wanting to purchase alcohol, regardless of age.

Key Destinations
The new Lewisburg GIANT features the company’s newest format and store layout anchored by the fresh hall. The fresh departments such as produce, deli, bakery, meat and seafood are focal points as customers enter the store. The fresh hall includes the following key destinations:

  • Market Fresh Produce – includes a bountiful assortment of fresh and locally-grown fruits and vegetables and a variety of fresh organic produce and salad bar.
  • Butcher Shoppe and Seafood Market – features Certified Angus Beef, 100% U.S.D.A. Choice Grade Beef, All-Natural Hatfield Pork, Grade A Chicken and a vast selection of steaks, filets and shellfish. This location features a lobster tank and free steamer service.
  • Market Square Deli – brings the freshest assortment of deli meats, including Boar’s Head products and a world-class assortment of cheeses and specialty cheeses. Customers will also find ready- to-eat sandwiches and salads, GIANT’S signature fried chicken, fresh never frozen rotisserie chicken, pasta, soups, entrees and freshly prepared sushi.
  • Corner Bakery Shoppe – located deep in the store’s fresh hall, the bakery features GIANT’S award-winning cakes and desserts, Old World artisan breads, and delicious donuts.
  • Starbucks – For coffee lovers, a Starbucks coffee bar is available for customers to enjoy their favorite coffee, handcrafted beverages and snacks.
  • Floral – from holiday arrangements to simple bouquets, GIANT’S full service professionals can create a design to brighten anyone’s day.

GIANT offers other services, including an ATM, lottery tickets, money orders, postage stamps, RedBox DVD rentals, and Western Union.

Time Saving and Convenient Technology
Lewisburg customers can utilize GIANT’S state-of-the-art technology for added convenience, including SCAN IT! and SCAN IT! mobile. Using either a smartphone or a SCAN IT! handheld device, customers can scan and bag their groceries as they shop and pay at the checkout. With SCAN IT! and SCAN IT! mobile, customers receive exclusive, personalized offers and can get a total while shopping making it easier to stay on budget.

EasyScan allows customers to utilize one of six self-scanning units to expedite the checkout process. EasyWeigh enables customers to weigh produce, bulk food and other items making checkout quicker and easier. In addition, free WiFi is available throughout the store to utilize GIANT’S smartphone app while shopping.

Built with the Environment in Mind
The new Lewisburg GIANT has been constructed with innovative building technologies to reduce energy consumption and the environmental impact of operations. LED lighting is used in many interior and exterior areas of the store to significantly reduce energy needs. Warm concrete floors have replaced traditional tile, reducing the amount of cleaning solutions normally utilized. The new store is pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

GIANT celebrated its grand opening by donating $12,000 to the following Union County organizations during a special presentation on Thursday, Aug. 6:

  • Buffalo Valley Regional Police Department
  • Eastern Union County Supplemental Food Program
  • Geisinger Health System Foundation – Children’s Miracle Network
  • The Green Dragon Foundation
  • Lewisburg Area School District
  • William Cameron Engine Company

Saturday, Aug. 8:
8 a.m. – Free Kodiak Cake Muffin Cups to the first 200 customers.
12 - 4 p.m. – Own Brands Prize Patrol surprising random shoppers with prizes.
2 - 4 p.m. – Clowns providing face painting and animal balloons for children.

Sunday, Aug. 9:
8 a.m. – Free Nature’s Promise Honey Nut Oat Cereal to the first 250 customers.
12 - 3 p.m. – Free Frisbees for the children.
12 - 4 p.m. – Own Brands Prize Patrol surprising random shoppers with prizes.
