BLUE RIDGE AREA FOOD BANK RECEIVES 225 TURKEYS AND $1,500 FROM MARTIN’S FOOD MARKETS’ FEEDING OUR NEIGHBORS EVERY DAY CAMPAIGN Nearly $90,000 in turkeys and cash donated in three states

Carlisle, PA – MARTIN’S Food Markets’ “Feeding Our Neighbors Every day” holiday campaign supported Blue Ridge Area Food Bank’s annual turkey drive with 225 turkeys and $1,500 to the food bank to use to purchase food when it needs it most, after the holidays.

“While food banks receive increased donations during the holiday season, these donations tend to slow down early in the New Year, even though the need doesn’t,” said Tom Lenkevich, MARTIN’S president. “Feeding our neighbors every day is part of MARTIN’S mission, but we can’t do it alone, and we need your help to end hunger in western and central Virginia.”

“Two hundred and twenty-five families will be blessed with a very special turkey donation. Protein is always a high demand and low supply item for us,” said Greg Knight, food sourcing manager for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. “These turkeys will not only be a blessing to the recipient families this special time of year, but will also provide important nutritional value for them.”

As part of MARTIN’S Feeding Our Neighbors holiday campaign, nearly $90,000 in turkeys and cash will be donated to eight regional food banks and local hunger organizations throughout three states. In addition to Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, FeedMore, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Philabundance, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley, Greater Berks Food Bank, Maryland Food Bank – Western Branch and Lancaster County Council of Churches will receive donations.
