LANCASTER COUNTY COUNCIL OF CHURCHES RECEIVES 250 TURKEYS AND $1,000 FROM GIANT FOOD STORES’ FEEDING OUR NEIGHBORS EVERY DAY CAMPAIGN Nearly $90,000 in turkeys and cash donated in three states

Carlisle, PA – GIANT Food Stores’ “Feeding Our Neighbors Every day” holiday campaign supported Lancaster County Council of Churches’ annual turkey drive with 250 turkeys and $1,000 to use to purchase food when it needs it most, after the holidays.

“While food banks receive increased donations during the holiday season, these donations tend to slow down early in the New Year, even though the need doesn’t,” said Tom Lenkevich, GIANT president. “Feeding our neighbors every day is part of GIANT’s mission, but we can’t do it alone, and we need your help to end hunger in Lancaster County.”

“We are profoundly grateful for the Thanksgiving turkey gift basket partnership with have with GIANT Food Stores,” said Jim Amstutz, executive director, Lancaster County Council of Churches. “Together we provide hundreds of families in our community with the opportunity to enjoy a holiday feast, and begin closing the gap of food insecurity.”

As part of GIANT’s Feeding Our Neighbors holiday campaign, nearly $90,000 in turkeys and cash were donated to eight regional food banks and local hunger organizations throughout three states.

In addition to Lancaster County Council of Churches, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Philabundance, FeedMore – Central Virginia Food Bank, Greater Berks Food Bank, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Maryland Food Bank – Western Branch received donations.
