Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Eric Papenfuse will offer holiday greetings and officially welcome the new GIANT Holiday Tree in ceremonies slated for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17 in the atrium of the MLK Government Center, 10 N. Second Street. Students from Harrisburg schools, as well as workers and residents in the city are welcome to attend the event.
GIANT Food Stores has donated the 26-foot tree to the people of Harrisburg and has committed to sponsoring the annual City Hall holiday tree lighting celebration for the next decade.
“This beautiful tree is expected to grace our atrium each holiday season for the next 10 years,” said Mayor Eric Papenfuse, who will offer holiday greetings at the tree lighting ceremony. “We thank GIANT for making this possible and for helping us spread holiday cheer in Harrisburg.”
GIANT is the exclusive sponsor of the holiday tree and is providing refreshments for the celebration that will include remarks from the Mayor’s Interfaith Advisory Council as well as performances from area choirs, musicians and poets.
“We invite everyone to join us to inaugurate the GIANT Holiday Tree and to enjoy a program of music, poetry and fun,” said Tom Lenkevich, president, GIANT Food Stores. “With strong Central Pennsylvania roots for more than 90 years, we are proud to give back to support the city and the people of Harrisburg as they celebrate the holiday season.”
