Carlisle, PA – GIANT Food Stores today announced that the doors of its brand new store located at 4510 Marketplace Way in Hampden Township will open on Friday, October 10 at 8:00 a.m. The store, which features GIANT’s latest prototype along with a brand new Beer Garden & Eatery, replaces the grocer’s current Enola store located at 310 East Penn Drive. The East Penn Drive location will close for business on October 9 at 6:00 p.m.

John-Paul (J.P.) Frattone has been appointed store manager of the new 76,000 square foot GIANT, which will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will significantly increase the number of full and part-time associates from 220 to approximately 275. Frattone recently served as store manager of the New Cumberland GIANT.

“We’re excited to introduce to our shoppers a new store prototype which offers our customers an expanded selection of items in virtually every department in an exciting, vibrant atmosphere,” said Frattone.

One-stop shopping in an innovative store layout

When customers walk through the doors of the new store they will take in the vast, fresh hall that includes GIANT’s signature produce, deli, meat, seafood, and bakery departments all complemented by a warm and inviting décor package.

Customers will also find a variety of new features and amenities both in-store and out. The Beer Garden & Eatery will offer customers a wide variety of eat-in and take-out selections including wraps, salads, subs and Panini sandwiches. The Beer Garden & Eatery will also offer a large selection of domestic and imports with an emphasis on craft and specialty beers.

In-store nutritionist a valuable resource for customers

Emphasizing GIANT’s ongoing commitment to making healthy living choices easy, Holly Doan, RD, LDN has joined the company as an in-store nutritionist at the Hampden Township store. Doan will be available to assist customers with questions on healthy eating while they shop, provide one-on-one nutrition consultations, teach health related classes, and conduct Kid Healthy Ideas store tours. In addition, Doan will also participate in future health related events throughout the surrounding Hampden Township community.

“Holly is just a terrific resource for customers who are looking to achieve healthier lifestyles and make better choices in the food they are putting in their shopping carts,” said Frattone.

Holly Doan holds a bachelor’s of science in nutrition from Messiah College and graduated from the Penn State University Dietetic Internship program. Doan has a diverse background including experience in childhood nutrition, community nutrition education, and wellness counseling in a variety of settings.

Health and wellness is also a focus throughout the store as customers will find a unique assortment of natural and organic products in one of their favorite sections called Nature’s Promise Marketplace, which includes more than 2,500 frozen, dairy, grocery and special diet selections.

GIANT’s exclusive Healthy IdeasTM product labeling system includes thousands of GIANT’s own brand and national brand perishable and nonperishable products that feature the blue and green Healthy Ideas shelf tags that help customers identify healthy options as they shop the aisles. Foods labeled with the Healthy Ideas symbol include single ingredient fruits, vegetables and 100% fruit juice, some canned, frozen and dried fruits, certain breads and meats, cereals, low fat dairy products and some snack foods.

For coffee lovers, a Starbucks coffee bar has been added adjacent to the produce department. Customers can enjoy a number of exceptional products at Starbucks including coffee, handcrafted beverages, and merchandise in the store or on the go. Another unique feature to be found is the new on-site Sushi bar.

Energy Saving Features

The new Hampden Township GIANT, which is pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, has been constructed with innovative building technologies to reduce energy consumption and the environmental impact of operations. LED lighting will be used in many areas of the store, significantly reducing energy needs. Warm concrete floors have replaced the traditional tile, reducing the amount of cleaning solutions normally utilized.
