LANCASTER COUNTY COUNCIL OF CHURCHES RECEIVES 250 TURKEYS FROM GIANT FOOD STORES
Carlisle, PA – GIANT Food Stores and Lancaster County Council of Churches partnered to challenge the Lancaster community to donate $25,000 to the Council during the “Extraordinary Give” event held on November 21. Lancaster County Council of Churches raised over $41,000 during the “Extraordinary Give”. Today, GIANT donated 250 turkeys to the Lancaster Council of Churches to fulfill the pledge at their Lititz Pike location.
In a variety of ways, the Lancaster County Council of Churches’ emergency food bank distributes food to low-income families, seniors and homebound individuals with limited fixed income. About 20% of the people fed are seniors and 30% are children.
Reverend Scott Fischer, executive director of Lancaster County Council of Churches states, “It’s a beautiful thing when people work together to help their neighbors in need. We applaud GIANT Food Stores for their commitment to give back to the community. Because of their generosity the Lancaster County Council of Churches will be able to provide a true Thanksgiving to an additional 250 of Lancaster County’s most food insecure families.” These families will receive not only a turkey but a large box of traditional thanksgiving foods and fixings.
“The fight against hunger occurs year round for far too many in our local communities and we were proud to support the Lancaster County Council of Churches during the Extraordinary Give event,” said Chris Brand, manager of community and public relations, GIANT Food Stores. “In the spirit of giving this holiday season, we hope this donation jump-starts other donations to Lancaster County Council of Churches.”
