Carlisle, PA – GIANT Food Store associate Al Montgomery has been named Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association Driver of the Year. This award was selected by a committee made up of representatives from the Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, Century Insurance Company and Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association.

“Al has been a valuable member of our transportation team and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this honor,” said Rick Herring, president. “In addition to logging more than 1.2 million miles accident free with GIANT, Al has also used his trucking skills to help others in need including delivering needed supplies to those communities affected by Hurricane Katrina and the tornado in Joplin, Missouri.”

Throughout his 42 year trucking career, Montgomery has logged 3.5 million accident free miles. He joined GIANT in 1995 and delivers regularly to stores and the company’s distribution centers. Montgomery had previously driven for JG Packing, Economy Wholesales, Ward Trucking Corporation and Carolina Freight Carriers. In addition, he has been a volunteer truck driver for Project Share, helping to pick up and deliver clothing, food and furniture. Montgomery resides with his family in Mechanicsburg.
